The Italian prisoners were held at the R.E.M.E Camp sited on one edge of a piece of land between Ridgacre Lane, Green Lane, Worlds End Lane and Ridgacre Road. The camp was at the Green lane side. In the photograph, Ridgacre Road can be seen behind Gugliemi Vito's shoulder. The R.E.M.E had commandeered the garage on the corner of Hagley Road West and Trevanie Avenue and that was where they worked.
I can remember other Italians besides the ones in the photo and I think it's likely that there were about a dozen there. They seemed to be free to walk about Quinton as they pleased but maybe that memory dates from after the end of the war.
